Craig Young – Executive Officer Resignation Announcement
Dear Members and Committees of the ABCRA,
I am announcing my resignation as Executive Officer of the ABCRA, effective Friday, 31 October 2025. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve this association over the past eight years—an experience I am deeply proud of.
Throughout this time, we’ve faced many challenges, and together we’ve overcome them, strengthening the ABCRA’s position as a leading equine association in Australia.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting people from all corners of the country, and through my work, I’ve formed lasting friendships that I truly value. This has been the most rewarding part of my role. We are fortunate to have so many dedicated individuals in our association.
During my tenure, we developed the iCompete management system, which has significantly improved efficiency and accuracy for both the office and committee secretaries. Membership and event growth have been exceptional, with the business doubling in size. We’ve maintained consistent profitability year after year and have stabilised the association financially through strategic investments in property and cash reserves. Our equity now exceeds $2 million. This will assist us to remain viable and ride through future unexpected events and invest back into members through savings and the association’s future.
Each week, we welcome new events and committees, a testament to the dedication of our office staff and their commitment to service. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside such capable and passionate people, and I will miss the daily challenges and camaraderie.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Matt Weber and Dean Taylor, past Presidents of the association, for their unwavering support and leadership. I also thank Ron Berkley and Chris Wyhoon, our Treasurers, for their guidance and support in managing the association’s finances. These gentlemen have been instrumental in the growth and success of the ABCRA, and their contributions cannot be overstated.
I wish everyone all the very best. My time with the ABCRA has been immensely rewarding, and I take great pride in what we’ve achieved together. I will continue to be involved on a voluntary basis through my roles on affiliated committees and look forward to seeing many of you at future events.
